   Betty Ruth (James) Karle, age 76, died Tuesday, 20 May 2008 in Mena, Arkansas. She was born in Pleasanton, Kansas on 22 June 1931 to the late Milton P. James and the late Christina M. Brown James.
   Betty was united in marriage to the late Henry J. Karle on 18 October 1952. She graduated from the University of Kansas School of Nursing in 1953.
    Betty was preceded in death by her husband Henry. She is survived by her five children, sons Mark (Deanna) Karle of Topeka, Kansas, Tim (Joyce) Karle of Jefferson City, Missouri and John (Keri) Karle of Columbia, Missouri; daughters Connie Daniels of Olathe, Kansas and Jeanie Karle of Mena, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
   Betty's older brother, Lt. Jack James, was a pilot in the 777th Squadron. His aircraft was "Little Lulu", they were shot down over Czechoslovakia 24 July 1944. Lt. James was killed in action.
   She was a lover of history and one of her accomplishments was to co-author a book on her brother's WWII bomb group, "The 464th Bomb Group in WWII," which was first published in 2002.
   Betty did not hesitate to help others who were searching for more information about the members of the Group. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and by all who benefited from her experience and expertise in our Group's history.
   Funeral services were held Saturday, 24 May 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church in Pleasanton, Kansas. Burial followed at Pleasanton Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Coffel-Schneider-Torneden Funeral Home of Pleasanton.
